The Commerce Bank Visa Extras Card

When you look for a rewards card, you should look for a card that actually gives you rewards in a reasonable amount of time. The Commerce Bank Visa Extras Card is not one of them. The amount of spending that you have to make in order to get rewards sometimes borders on the ridiculous, with amounts of up to $3.33/point accruing towards rewards. While this rewards card is better than no rewards card, it’s only barely better. Spend any time searching, and you should be able to find a better rewards credit card than this one.

Commerce Bank Visa Extras Card

Pros:

  • No annual fee
  • Competitive interest rate
  • It does offer rewards

Cons:

  • The rewards redemption rate is very skewed in the bank’s favor
  • $.006/point rate for gift card redemption
  • $.006/point rate for cash redemption
  • $.003/point rate for gift purchase redemption
  • $.009/point rate for airline travel redemption

This is the worst of the crop for rewards cards. It rates a 3 out of 10. Do yourself a favor and look at any other rewards card that has been reviewed here to find a better card.

Somewhat misleading….the Commerce card offers 3 points for every dollar spent. You imply that it’s 1 for 1 - which it’s not. I agree that it’s not the best rewards card out there, but it’s certainly better than your description.

    Thank you.

@Mike–Indeed. I did the math incorrectly, and have changed the post to reflect. Thanks for the information. I still stand by my assertions that it’s one of the worst, but it’s not quite as bad once you make the adjustment!
